We were at a Nike Tennis camp for 5 days with about nine other kids at Enchantment Resort in Sedona, AZ.
Usually, we got there and warmed up for about 20 minutes, stretched, and started our day. In the morning we worked on technique, ground strokes, and vollies.
We had 3 very good coaches – one for techniques, one for special shots, and one for serving. We rotated out between 3 courts in groups of four about every 20-30 minutes.
For the rest of the day, we focused on game play. We were matched up individually against other kids about our skill level, bringing together everything we learned.
My favorite part was lunch where everyone got to talk and rest. We played about 27 hours of tennis that whole week. They said we ran about 5 miles every day over little steps for footwork. Unbelievable! We were exhausted at the end of each day! On the third day, we felt like we couldn’t walk.
My skills have improved a lot, especially at the net. I’m more balanced and aware of how we play tennis now.
